Cinematography Confidence: Invest in Yourself, Push Yourself, and Dream Big

written by Shane Hurlbut, ASC

My New Year’s resolution this year is to meditate every morning by saying what I am grateful for. Seems simple, RIGHT?! It is. Take five minutes while you are waking up in bed to just be grateful for your life, your family, your house, your team, your parents, your significant other, your kids. I think you get the point. So many people psych themselves out with having to be in an upright position or having an area to do the meditation. Don’t do this. Just lay there and be grateful for life.

Invest in Yourself

Lydia and I had a conversation the other day. We were discussing our content and curriculum for 2016, and we were reminiscing on how I learned all of my craft. If I had a resource like the Inner Circle, it would have propelled my career even more. Lydia said, “You know you would have been all over that to accelerate your knowledge.” I know that many of you are on a budget or have only so much allotted for investing in your next gear purchase. But how about flipping the paradigm? If you improve your confidence on set, if you become a better leader, if you are given the tools to communicate your vision more efficiently, if you can immediately use our instruction to expand your skillsets and have clients really notice, then isn’t this a much better investment than your next gear purchase? This is not just to push the Inner Circle. It is about bettering yourself in any way you can and not worrying about what is the next 4K, 5K, 6K capture device.

New Year, New Plan

If you believe in what I am saying, then we offer an option in the visual storytelling department. Lydia and I, along with our HV team, have created some incredible content for all of you in 2016. Just like how I am asking all of you to invest in yourself, Lydia and I are always pushing ourselves to be better as well. I wanted to show you visually what I am talking about. I had our kick ass editor Dylan Leong whip together a glimpse of what is to come. Sit back and immerse yourself in the world that is Shane’s Inner Circle 2016!!!!!
