When I was growing up in a small farming community in upstate New York, the phrase, “Hey, what you got under your hood?” was said way too many times, with testosterone infused male teenagers getting their licenses and using hard-earned chore money to buy that car or truck once they were sixteen.
Having a license and a vehicle was absolutely essential where I grew up.
Without it, you could not do much of anything without your parents supplying the transportation. The grocery store was seventeen miles away; the nearest movie theater was twenty miles away.
Hey Shane, “What do you have under your hood?” Well, growing up on a farm, a car really wasn’t an option. You needed something that could not only get you around but could haul stuff and drive in rough terrain. Under my hood, in my 1969 GMC C-10 pickup truck, was a 350 four barrel. It was a rocket ship, but always required maintenance and countless hours of fixing, tinkering with the engine, carburetor, etc. This was back when you could actually work on your car without being a rocket scientist.
Where the hell am I going with this?
Lydia and I, along with the Hurlbut Visuals team, have been working on something special for all of you. Seven years of sharing knowledge, inspiring and educating you all on the art form of storytelling has been kind of hidden in a blog that we created in 2009 when I was diving into my first digital experience as a cinematographer with the Canon 5D MK II. You have always had access to it, but it has been difficult to search.
We are changing all of that.
The New HurlBlog, with our new domain name, thehurlblog.com, is now live for all of you to enjoy and to look under the proverbial hood. When we were designing this, our team kept coming up to me and saying, there is so much knowledge in here. I had no idea.
What is new?
New Navigation and Categories
We have really focused on categories and sub-categories that make it easy to navigate and get you exactly where you need to be. Six months in the making, it has new imagery, a new theme, and the ability to see everything that is under the hood at a single glance.
Mega Menus – What is this?
The mega menu function on seven of our categories ignites your learning experience by showing four current articles in each sub-category.
Lydia has been writing for the HurlBlog for over five years, but her content has been buried under blog crawl search on the old site. Now she has her own category called Lifestyle. She dives deep into career choices, life in balance, leadership, and working in this business and its toll on a family.
We also included the store in a way that you can mega menu its incredible storytelling education. We have hundreds of ways for you to learn for free and for a very small fee so that you can take your skill set to the next level. Many articles are $4.99. There are also inexpensive bundles that load a ton of knowledge at an affordable price.
Shane’s Inner Circle
Shane’s Inner Circle has its own category so that you can sample what you are missing if you have not joined. If you have not checked this learning and curriculum based membership out, you should take another look under its hood. We at Hurlbut Visuals have dedicated countless hours setting you up with confidence that is usually learned over time with experience. You now gain that confidence within months. Your skill level will jump you years ahead of everyone you are working alongside. But you do not have to take my word for it. Just take a look inside.
Why invest all this time and money?
We owe this to all of you who have supported us for seven years. We owe it to our sponsors that have been so gracious in helping us share with all of you, and we owe it to ourselves constantly to never be comfortable, always to push ourselves to be better. We feel it is our responsibility to pass our knowledge onto the future storytellers of tomorrow.
Pull up a chair, fire up your laptop, and check out what’s under the hood!!!!
